Buying AI software development for financial services

By Mikko Laakkonen · Taiga co-founder and CEO

Start with one change you can trace and one responsibility map your teams can accept. Taiga can help prepare and implement the change; your financial entity still decides the risk, approves release and owns the obligations that apply to it.

A bank does not buy faster code in isolation. It buys a change to a service people already depend on. This guide uses an illustrative reconciliation exception dashboard to show what a procurement team, risk owner and engineering team should examine before enabling Taiga. It is not a customer result or a claim that the service satisfies a regulatory framework.

Choose a workflow with a clear operational boundary

Suppose operations staff reconcile an incoming settlement file with ledger entries. Today, they inspect mismatches in a spreadsheet and ask engineering to investigate. The proposed dashboard imports approved read-only feeds, groups exceptions and records the staff member’s disposition. It does not move money, alter the ledger, approve credit or make a final financial decision.

Write down the source of truth, reconciliation cutoff, currencies, precision rules, duplicate-file behavior and the consequences of a late or missing feed. A dashboard that silently treats an absent file as zero exceptions is a failed design even if its interface works. Operations defines what counts as a match and which actions require another person.

Choose the first initiative narrowly: display mismatches for one approved feed and export the review record. Keep automated ledger adjustment out of that scope. If you later add a write path or decision logic, reopen the risk assessment, permissions and acceptance criteria rather than inheriting the earlier approval.

Follow the exception through delivery

For a new project, Taiga’s setup workflow requires a specification, user flows, architecture, technology decisions, data flow, threat model, DPIA structure and risk register. Your team reviews and publishes the project context. The finance specialist supplies the matching rules; the security reviewer assesses the trust boundaries and access model; the architecture owner approves integrations.

For an existing service, import can derive versioned reality documents with file citations, scans, a policy assessment and an initial backlog. Have someone who knows the ledger integration review that account of the system. Code-derived context is useful evidence about what exists, not proof that it expresses the financial rule correctly.

Define acceptance cases before building: a duplicated file must not double-count settlements; a missing feed must show an incomplete state; an unauthorized user must not see another business unit’s records; a rounding mismatch must remain explainable; and a disposition must retain the actor and source record. Test these against synthetic fixtures with expected results calculated independently.

Taiga plans and builds an initiative against the published context. Review the resulting pull request and check results. Automatic building or merging, where configured, is bounded by organization, team and repository controls. Release through the bank’s approved pipeline, verify the deployed version, and keep a rollback or read-only fallback that the operator has exercised.

Put a named owner beside every responsibility

The business and risk owners define the permitted use, criticality, acceptance rules and residual risk. Engineering reviewers assess generated code and test evidence. The financial entity’s procurement and legal teams decide which regulatory and contractual requirements apply. Taiga supplies its documented platform workflow and the agreed service; it cannot make those institutional decisions on the buyer’s behalf.

Separate service operation from platform operation. Taiga operates its platform. The runtime operator named in your agreement owns the application’s deployment permissions, monitoring coverage, incident escalation, recovery and operational changes within its scope. If your bank operates the runtime, those duties need bank owners and runbooks, even when Taiga prepares a repair.

For this dashboard, name who investigates a stale feed, who confirms a reconciliation error, who authorizes a data correction, who can release a fix and who communicates a material incident. Those can be different people. The audit trail should connect their decisions to the change without implying that every financial judgment was automated.

Separate platform data from application data

Taiga’s published platform terms locate the managed platform on AWS in Frankfurt and model inference through Amazon Bedrock in EU regions. That describes the platform, not every system it helps build. The application’s database, backups, logs, integrations and support access need their own approved data-flow record. An EU platform region does not decide whether a particular upload or deployment is permitted.

Before connecting a repository, identify which files the service may read and remove credentials and data extracts that do not belong in development. Start the example with synthetic records. Decide what may enter project documents, conversations, source code, test fixtures and browser telemetry. A pseudonymous identifier can still be personal data; removing a name is not the whole assessment.

Review the current subprocessor list and data processing agreement alongside the platform privacy statement. Ask about access, retention, export, deletion and changes to processing locations for the agreed scope. Confirm the customer runtime separately: who holds the cloud account, who can read production data, where backups land and who answers an incident at night.

Build the procurement evidence package

DORA Article 28 addresses ICT third-party risk management and Article 30 sets contractual provisions, including allocation of duties and processing locations. Use the official text with your risk and legal teams to determine the requirements for this service and whether it supports a critical or important function. This guide is a procurement example, not that classification or a complete regulatory assessment.

Ask for the service description, proposed responsibility schedule, processing locations and subprocessors, incident assistance and notification terms, available assurance evidence, access arrangements and exit provisions. If a DORA addendum is proposed, review it together with the signed service agreement; the presence of an addendum alone does not establish that the whole arrangement fits your institution.

For the delivered change, retain the reviewed specification and financial rules, architecture and data flow, test cases and results, pull request, approval record, deployment record and operating runbook. Reconstruct one exception from input file to human disposition. Verify that your teams can obtain this record without depending on the original developer’s memory.

Resolve the purchase blockers early

Taiga’s capability reference documents new-project setup, codebase import, queued initiatives, maintenance findings, deployment records and configured monitoring. A setup document can structure the questions; it does not prove that the answers are correct. Repository findings and policy assessments cover their implemented scope. A passing scan is not a certificate, and an unconfigured signal is not a healthy system.

The published vendor comparison states Taiga’s current assurance and identity limitations, including no third-party penetration test and no SAML or SCIM provisioning. Microsoft Entra ID federation is documented, with an owner recovery exception to required SSO. Compare those specifics with your mandatory procurement requirements before enabling Taiga. Do not substitute a roadmap promise for evidence your policy requires now.

Taiga mirrors connected GitHub deployment records; the configured pipeline performs deployment and environment approvals. Its URL checks need configuration and browser signals need the beacon. Those capabilities do not establish a managed on-call service, full infrastructure observability or autonomous rollback. Agree those operating duties explicitly.

What enabling Taiga requires

Bring one bounded workflow, an accountable business owner, an engineering reviewer and the applicable policies. Identify the repository or new-project scope, permitted data, required identity controls, deployment environments and the named production operator. Decide who can publish documents, approve plans, review pull requests and authorize releases before work begins.

Use the first review to examine a real change from intent to published documents, plan, pull request, checks and release record. Include a failed acceptance case and show how the work is corrected and checked again. The buying decision should turn on evidence your team can inspect, the responsibilities it can staff and the contract it can accept.

The signed Order Form defines service scope and hosting responsibilities. Compare the published pricing with the internal review, integration, testing and operating work you retain. Record the exit plan as part of the purchase: how your team obtains the repository and documents, removes vendor access and continues maintaining the service.
